Facebook is the least trusted social media network: new poll – Metro.co.uk

Facebook has taken the crown as the least trusted social media network, with the majority of Americans also having distrust of TikTok and Instagram.
A whopping 72% of Americans and Internet users said they trust Facebook ‘not much’ or ‘not at all’ in terms of responsibly handling their personal information and data, according to a Washington Post-Schar School poll released on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, 63% of users surveyed said they distrusted TikTok, and 60% said they distrusted Instagram, which is owned by Facebook’s parent company Meta.
Slight majorities distrusted another Meta-owned platform, WhatsApp, at 53%, and YouTube, at the same percentage. Amazon
Tech companies that received more favorable ratings included Google, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon. They were distrusted by 47%, 42%, 40% and 40%, respectively.
In addition, 70% of Americans think that their conversations on devices including phones and smart speakers get listened to without permission.
Tech companies have denied those accusations.
Facebook’s reputation was damaged by the Cambridge-Analyitica scandal, which revealed that 84million users’ personal data was harvested without them giving permission, from 2007 to 2014.
The survey by the Post and George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government was conducted from November 4 to 22 with 1,122 American adults including 1,058 Internet users. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
