AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D could offer up to a … –

Many argue that the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D arrived a tad too late. With the Zen 4-based Ryzen 7000 Raphael processors launching mere months after, the CPU won’t be able to keep its spot as the best gaming processor for long. However, AMD hopes to remedy the situation with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D by launching them much earlier in the release cycle. Controversial YouTube leaker Moore’s Law is Dead has now revealed some new information about the Zen 4 X3D SKUs, such as their performance and tentative release date.
Tom starts by stating that the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D will have a "second generation" 3D V-cache, which will be manufactured on TSMC’s 6/7 nm node. It is expected to bring some under-the-hood improvements such as higher clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D, for all its benefits, couldn’t be overclocked due to voltage restrictions.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 9 7950X3D should ideally be able to overcome that shortcoming, although the voltage tolerances could still be relatively tight. The amount of L3 cache will remain unchanged across generations, but as benchmarks have shown, 96 MB of L3 cache is plenty to cement AMD’s position as the ultimate gaming CPU.
AMD’s internal testing revealed that the Zen 4 3D processors were up to 30% faster than their non-3D counterparts. That is double Zen 3D’s performance uplift, which hovered around the 15% mark. These figures will certainly improve in the coming months as the tests were performed on early iterations of the silicon that will get better with time.
Previous rumours pegged the Zen 4 release date as September 2022. Many leakers still stand by that date, although a significant number of insiders have heard that it could be pushed back further. Zen 4 3D, on the other hand, is unlikely to hit shelves before April 2023, but AMD could show them off earlier. If the Zen 4 performance leaks are accurate, AMD has no reason to rush Zen 4 3D and can take its time perfecting the silicon instead of launching it haphazardly.
