All That Glitters: Katherine Ryan felt ‘moved’ during emotional challenges –

All That Glitters host Katherine Ryan has shared just how emotional she became when hearing some of the heart-wrenching stories from clients that this year’s contestants needed to make pieces for.
The BBC Two series which looks to find Britain’s next jewellery star began last week, with Katherine returning as the voice of reason for this year’s cast.
Judge Shaun Leane is also back on-hand to give his verdict on the glitzy pieces alongside new addition Dinny Hall from their bespoke studio in Birmingham.
As the show returns tonight for a brand-new set of challenges for fans to enjoy, host Katherine has spoken out on some of the tougher moments from the series.
Each episode sees contestants take on two real-world tasks, The Bestseller and The Bespoke, with the latter generally producing more emotional results.
The bespoke challenge requires them to create a special one-off piece for a client.
Of what moments she found the most moving, Katherine teased to and other press: ‘I can’t remember anything until I see it, which is why it’s so exciting to watch the series again.
‘But I think all the bespoke challenges – this time – were really moving in the way that jewellers responded to some of the stories. The client stories were really moving.’
Katherine went on to share how viewers will hear stories of clients such as a paediatric nurse and a family who had suffered from infant loss which she described as ‘harrowing’.
She continued: ‘To watch the jewellers connect with the clients and find the beauty within some of this brief, and create a piece that was so connected to what these people had gone through and commemorate it for generations to come, I found the jewellers all to be so intuitive and so sensitive.
‘Those were the challenges that for me, were always the most emotional. I mean, I tried to block it out, keep stoic but you get to really love [the jewellers’] when you watch them all react to the clients for their bespoke challenges.
Elsewhere, Katherine also revealed how excited she was to welcome Dinny to the team, who has over 35 years of experience in the fashion and jewellery industries.

Speaking about the new judge, the comedian said: ‘It’s funny because I feel like Dinny’s personality is so reflected in her craft and her work.
‘Now whenever I look at Dinny Hall pieces, Dinny’s got that same colourful, special, sparkle.’
All That Glitters continues tonight at 9pm on BBC2 at 9pm.
