2018 Gaston County Middle School football preview – Gaston Gazette

GASTONIA – Defending divisional champions Southwest and Bessemer City are the preseason picks of Gaston County Middle School coaches as the 2018 season begins on Wednesday.
Southwest completed an 8-0 season last year with a 32-12 win over Bessemer City in the 2017 county championship game.
The Roadrunners received unanamious support from their four Division I rivals in a preseason poll. Grier is the runner-up pick, followed by Holbrook, Cramerton and Mount Holly.
In Division II, Bessemer City received four of six preseason first-place votes with second-place W.C. Friday receiving the other two votes. Rounding out the poll are Stanley, York Chester, Chavis and Belmont.
The season begins on Wednesday with Cramerton at Stanley, Mount Holly at Belmont, York Chester at Holbrook, Southwest at Chavis and Grier at W.C. Friday. Bessemer City will open its season at Mount Holly on Sept. 5
The 2018 county playoffs begin on Oct. 17 with the championship scheduled to be played Oct. 24.
